Genetic Counseling
Genetic counseling relates to any parentally-inherited disorder that may impact the pregnancy or the future adult.
Why get genetic counseling from Dr. Stanley?
Many couples schedule genetic counseling with a counselor, but Dr. Stanley-Christian gives you the benefit of speaking with a medical professional who is more than a counselor. Not only is Dr. Stanley a board-certified OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist, but she is also a board-certified geneticist.
When should I schedule genetic counseling?
If your OB or medical provider determines a risk of an inherited disorder affecting your baby, you may be encouraged to meet with a genetic counselor.
When you come into our practice, Dr. Stanley-Christian will review your family history, weigh your options, and advise on how to proceed with your pregnancy. Diagnostic tests will be able to determine whether your child has a genetic disorder. If an inherited disorder is confirmed, Dr. Stanley-Christian can monitor and co-manage your pregnancy with your current provider.
